Comments: Health insurance giant WellPoint is joining the ever-growing list of Indiana-based companies slashing jobs to maintain profits amid the economic downturn. The Indianapolis-based company announced Friday it is cutting 1,500 positions, or about 3.5 percent of its work force. The moves involve eliminating 900 vacant positions and laying off 600 existing workers.
